Organisational Development Case Study
I have known and worked with Naila Hussain for approximately seven years, initially through her involvement in enterprise classroom activities at Princeville Primary School and then, after spending some time discussing the kinds of support that she could offer me, through coaching and leadership support.
In 2013, I became headteacher at St Philip’s CE Primary Academy. The school was going through a turbulent time as OFSTED had visited three months previously and the school was placed into category. It was clear that many changes needed to be made but I was acutely aware that staff morale was low and I needed them to be ‘on board’ to ensure maximum impact.
Naila delivered a programme of activities, which involved all stakeholders. Naila’s approach and ethos helped me to create a shared vision with the staff and build a team around me who could drive that vision and make a difference to children’s lives.
Eleven months passed and OFSTED visited again, with a tremendous outcome in such a short space of time: the school was graded as Requiring Improvement, with Leadership and Management and Behaviour and Safeguarding judged as Good. We went on to win the Telegraph & Argus Award for School Improvement 2015.
Changing a school that was in serious trouble did not have a ‘quick-fix’ but we continue on our journey and judge ourselves to be Good in all areas, something that we think OFSTED will agree with when they visit us next. The leadership support and team building activities that Naila has been involved in have really focussed the leadership team and ensured the best outcomes for pupils.
I would highly recommend working with Naila to anyone who wants to be successful in leadership and management. An investment in leadership and management leads to a productive team and effective outcomes.
